Australia’s love affair with the ute has just gone classy!
Mercedes Benz has brought the new concept X-class to Australia for promotional and dealer briefing purposes – and social media went into a frenzy!
Who would have thought that elegant and luxurious and ‘ute’ will go together?
What are the specs?
Knows so far Mercedes Benz has released information on “…the classic SUV front apron, the broad wheel housings and the 22-inch light-alloy wheels in contrasting anthracite chrome..”. The X-Class is a tall 1.9 metres with 35 x 11.50 tyres.
Mercedes designed a “…distinctive two-slat SUV radiator grille, front and rear under ride guards, as well as the cladding on the wings and wheel housings. It also features electric winch on the front and a metal hook at the rear.”
The interior offers “..black nappa leather and carbon-fibre trim elements contrast with the lemonax metallic exterior..”
“The engine line-up includes a powerful V6 diesel engine in conjunction with 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive. This high-torque engine ensures great driving dynamics both on and off the beaten track. The powerful drive system and robust ladder chassis will allow for payloads greater than 1.1 tonnes and a towing capacity of up to 3.5 tonnes. Just like all other Mercedes-Benz vehicles, the pickup will be fitted with class-leading safety systems. Modern driver assistance systems will increase the vehicle’s levels of safety and comfort.”
Mercedes launches to X-Class to compete with the hugely popular Nissan Nevara, Toyota Hilux, Mitsubishi Triton, Isuzu D-Max and of course the VW Amarok.
Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars and chairman of the board for Daimler AG, Dr Dieter Zetsche, elaborates that: “With the Mercedes-Benz pick-up, we will close one of the last gaps in our portfolio. Our target: we want to offer customers vehicles matching their specific needs. The X-Class will set new standards in a growing segment,” Zetsche said.
